CONCEPT. DESIGN. MANAGEMENT.

June 2010

May 2010 saw a CDM Studio project come to the small screen, ’Stormworld’ airing at 11.30 am saturday mornings on channel 9 features both the ’Stormrider’ and ’Flybikes’ designed and fabricated by CDM Studio. Many thanks to Great Western Entertainment for providing the fond memories of the behind the scenes footage. Despite the long hours you can see how much fun we had, we’re looking forward to series two.

West Australian film industry people we want your business we need to be pushed and pay the bills.

If you’re a Local Pub or Town Council or Shopping Centre contact CDM Studio about the hire of our giant Chess Set.

The majority of our time during the first quarter of 2010 was split between two sites.

A private client asked us to create an above ground Koi Breeding Pond, in his suburban backyard.

The Koi Pond project was run in conjunction with a smaller project at the Perth Zoo, redeveloping of the entrance to the Penguin Enclosure with a natural vista that reflected the habitat of the Penguins.

CDM Studio also moulded a series of five Marsupial Lion skulls for the WA Museum, to be used as educational models. They must have been a success as we have just been asked to supply an additional fifteen along with a dinosaur skull.

This month also saw the installation of our Brass Elephant at the main entrance of Perth Zoo.

CDM Studio have recently purchased a fantastic cement sprayer that will allow us to cater to the needs of clients across a broad range of industries, we aim to offer our services and align the studio with Architectural, landscaping, construction and pool building companies. CDM Studio will be able to offer a skill driven service that utilizes all of the Studios creative knowledge in completing projects. As we extend our services we will be on the look out for competent crews or sub- contractors to assist us on our varied projects.

Over the next few weeks CDM Studio will be addressing the Radiated Tortoise and Meerkat Enclosures at Perth Zoo for some much needed cosmetic and structural revamping, allowing us to make further use of our newly purchased cement sprayer.

We will be looking to hire out our cement pump with the additional service of our creative expertise and experience. Artificial rocks, retaining walls, water tanks, sculptural landscapes and ponds can be incorporated into your projects with far less labour time.

Another challenging job that we have just begun came via Scott Watson Designs, CDM Studio will be supplying FESA with five realistic models. We will be updating the results of this project as it evolves.

In the coming months CDM Studio will be redeveloping our website, streamlining the services we offer and developing a newly conceived aspect called ‘Artist Assist’. Still in the embryonic stages we are aiming to open our archives of technical skills, economic fabrication solutions and trusted suppliers to be available to emerging and established WA artists. We are often approached by artists for assistance in their projects after a lot of unnecessary expenditure in time and money have already occurred on trial and error. We are interested in assisting artists to find technical and material solutions to their projects using our extensive problem solving experience.

A good example of how CDM Studio solved a material issue was the Beef Carcass project for Whiteman Park Museum. The client was asking for a hyper real outcome with a limited budget, we were able to replace high grade platinum silicone ($55.00 per kilo) with plumbers caulk ($2.50 per tube) and using a plaster waste mould were able to backpaint and foam fill the carcasses at a fraction of the cost, the results speak for themselves.

Please enter your email address if you would like to receive an irregular newsletter from CDM Studio. We will be giving updates and progress reports from a
ll of our current projects, insights into new techniques and materials we have been using, previewing future work and news from the studio floor.
